Nick and Norah's Infinite PlaylistPeter Sollett’s film Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist stars Michael Cera and Kat Dennings as two indie teens whose growing relationship centres around their shared love for music. It is their charming roles that make this otherwise typical teenage romance story an enjoyable and fun watch.

Cera is back in his role as the quirky but cool geek. Though there is a fear of him becoming typecast for this kind of character, he is perfect as the awkward bassist and only straight guy in his band ‘The Jerk-Offs.’ Dennings, who plays the unlucky-in-love Norah, is the shy daughter of a famous music producer, and comes to know the recently dumped Nick (Cera) by listening to his homemade, mixed CDs meant for his ex. Tris (Alexis Dziena) receives these CDs and automatically dumps them in the rubbish, but Norah saves them and treasures them, believing she is ‘in love with the guy who made these’ before their fateful meeting.

The film is set in New Jersey and New York and revolves around one night and one quest for the high school teens to find their favourite yet elusive band, ‘Where’s Fluffy?,’ who are playing a secret gig in a Manhattan venue. Though the “crazy” antics that happen throughout the night in attempt to make Nick and Norah’s growing romance a challenge were at times at a slow, ambling pace and not always that funny, the plot moved along because you were rooting for Nick and Norah to finally get together.

This is a simple, easy-watching film for lovers of the slightly different but mainly predictable romantic comedy. Michael Cera is always a pleasure to watch and he works well alongside Dennings in this fun rom-com.
